Pesa haijafika. Now what
The app says successful, M-Pesa says nothing, and sometimes the balance has not come back to the betting account either. Before assuming theft, work through the five causes below in order. Most stuck withdrawals are one of them, and three of the five you can fix yourself in a few minutes.
Ukiwa umepiga mzigo na ukashinda, halafu pesa haijafika, the frustration is real and the internet is full of people shouting about it and almost nobody explaining it. This page is the explanation. Sheng stays on this page because it belongs here. On the tax pages it does not.
The five causes, in check order
| Cause | How to tell | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Withdrawal not actually completed at the operator end | No M-Pesa message and the balance is still deducted | Check the transaction list in your account. If it shows pending rather than paid, it is queued, not lost |
| Mismatched M-Pesa number | You changed SIM or registered with a different number | Payouts route only to the number registered on the account. Changing it needs a profile update and re-verification, not a settings toggle |
| Disbursement failure | Operator shows paid, no M-Pesa credit | Call Safaricom on 100 and ask for a transaction trace with the timestamp |
| Verification hold | Withdrawals blocked, often on the first one | Some operators require verification to be complete before the first withdrawal. Approval typically takes a day or two |
| Limit breach | Large withdrawal, nothing arrives | M-Pesa caps at 250,000 per transaction and 500,000 per day. Split it |
A complaint you can paste
Replace the bracketed parts. Send it through the operator's written channel, not by phone, and keep the reference number they give you.
Account: [your account ID] · Registered number: [07XX XXX XXX]
On [date] at [time] I requested a withdrawal of KES [amount]. Your platform recorded the request as [status shown]. As of [today's date and time] no credit has been received on the registered M-Pesa number, and no M-Pesa confirmation code has been generated.
Please confirm in writing: (1) whether the disbursement was submitted, (2) the M-Pesa transaction reference if one exists, (3) if it was not submitted, the reason and the expected date of payment.
I note reg. 104(a) of the Conduct of Gambling Operations Regulations regarding payment of winnings within 14 days. Please treat this as a formal complaint under your internal dispute mechanism and provide a reference number.
Reversals
A reversal that leaves the money in neither place is the worst version of this, and it is documented enough in Kenya that it has become a recognisable complaint pattern. Screenshot everything, including the reversal notice, and raise it the same day. The longer the gap between the event and the complaint, the harder the trace becomes.
About the shouting
You will find threads titled with accusations of outright theft against every major Kenyan operator. Some of those cases are genuine and some are the five causes above with nobody explaining them. We are not going to repeat an accusation about a named company as though it were our own finding. What we can point at is the gap between one review platform rating an operator very highly on safety and another aggregating hundreds of reviews at under three out of five for the same brand. Read both before depositing meaningfully.
My account was limited after a big win. Is that allowed
Account limits after wins are a recurring complaint theme in aggregated Kenyan reviews. Whether a specific limit is permitted depends on the operator's terms and the conduct rules. Ask for the reason in writing, then escalate with that answer.
Should I withdraw small amounts first
Punters commonly advise testing with a small withdrawal before targeting a large one. That is practical advice about verifying your rails work, and it applies just as much on a crypto route.
Does the crypto route avoid this
It removes the operator payout desk from the chain, which removes several of these causes. It also removes GRA recourse entirely and adds network and counterparty risks of its own. Different failure modes, not fewer.
