USDT is issued across several networks and each has its own address format. TRC20 on Tron costs cents to transfer and became the dominant rail across Africa for that reason. ERC20 on Ethereum costs substantially more. Sending to an address on the wrong network puts the funds beyond recovery.

TRC20, ERC20 and the cost of getting it wrong

USDT is one asset issued on several networks at once. TRC20 is USDT on Tron. ERC20 is USDT on Ethereum. Same value, different rails, incompatible addresses. Send TRC20 to an address that only watches Ethereum and the funds sit somewhere nobody can reach. There is no reversal on a public chain and no operator has a duty to recover it for you.

The check that prevents the loss

  1. Open the receiving side first and note the network it names, before you touch the sending side.
  2. Copy the address with the copy button. Never retype it and never work from a photo.
  3. On the sending side, select the same network explicitly. Do not assume a default.
  4. Compare the first four and last four characters of the pasted address against the source.
  5. Send a small test amount and wait for it to land before sending the rest.

That test transfer costs cents on Tron and it is the cheapest insurance available in this whole process. People skip it because they have done it before, which is exactly when the address on the clipboard turns out to be the wrong one.

Those eleven come from the operator's FAQ. If you have seen a list including GRAM or USD1, it is wrong. Gram appears in the terms' definitions as a leftover from the platform's Telegram-native period, not as a coin the cashier takes. TON is on the real list and is the one most often omitted.

Assume the funds are gone. Public chain transfers do not reverse and the receiving operator has no obligation to recover them. Contacting support with the transaction hash is the only avenue and it rarely works.
